Session Description

Introduction

This session explores what we mean by the term personal care and the reasons why children and young people may require short-term or long-term personal care. It aims to give an overview of the different types of personal care which may be required, such as toileting, feeding, washing and dressing. We will outline the duties placed on settings to ensure that policy and practice enable settings to provide personal care support safely.

Learning Outcomes

  • To understand what we mean by ‘personal’ care and the underlying principles underpinning personal care
  • To consider vulnerabilities associated with personal care
  • To consider how we design and implement personal care policy and plans 
  • To explore best practices regarding procedures, including reporting and recording
